Solution
Nginx is a fast web server downstream of your Apache web server. He is a so-called "reverse proxy". In the default configuration of your webspace all requests for static files (for example .css, .js, all image formats like .jpg, .gif and also static HTML-pages like .htm or .html) are handled by Nginx. Apache is thereby relieved. This is one of the secrets why a website hosted by Bitpalast® is faster than with many other providers. Nginx returns the data much faster to the requesting browser than the Apache web server. Except the higher speed, visitors to your site will not notice, and because you still have Apache as a back-end server, the web space is also fully compatible with pure Apache configurations. With the icon "Apache & nginx Settings" you can also define Nginx as the sole web server or change the types of files considered as "static".
In addition, your webspace supports nginx caching. The web server is thus able to leave the last content delivered by your website in a cache for a period of time that you can control yourself. If it receives further requests for the same content, it delivers the content directly from its cache. This not only affects static files, but also dynamically generated pages. So you can, for example, dramatically accelerate websites, whose dynamic page content does not change every few seconds. By default, Nginx will cache content for five seconds, but you can set longer periods here as well.
Nginx caching not only speeds up the delivery of your website, but also reduces the server load because once rendered pages do not need to be constantly re-rendered. Especially for websites with many visitors, your pages will be delivered extremely fast, because there is no need for repeated page content rendering.
To enable nginx caching:
1. Log in to the webspace control panel.
2. Follow one of the options (A) or (B):
2 A) If you are using a Wordpress website and you are using the Wordpress Toolkit in the webspace control panel (that is, you see the Wordpress logo on the "Websites & Domains" tab and the buttons next to it, such as "Login", "Check Security" etc.):
Click the name of the website between Wordpress logo and "Login" button. This will take you to the Wordpress Toolkit. Click on the "Nginx Caching" switch so it turns on (green).
2 B) If you do not use the Wordpress Toolkit:
Click on the "Settings for Apache & nginx" icon. Select the checkbox "Activate nginx caching" and then click on "OK".
It may take up to 15 minutes for the change to take effect.
